Blogging?

Part of me is unsure that I am ready to blog, I tried to write this post exactly a year ago and ended up putting it off until now. I have tried micro-blogging some, but I did not keep up with it for longer than half a year-ish on an off. I think this feels more intimidating than that, though, even though I might post only a few times a year. In the past I have been pretty inspired by online blogs of a variety of sorts. I suppose I should just remember that the bar is not as high as it feels, because there is no bar.

And I think I am definitely going to keep this blog post title riff thing. Not sure how it came to me, but it feels wrong to pass it up now.

2021

I didn't move during 2021, which was a relief. I also did a lot less work-work, but I spent a lot of time learning. I actually read some books, too. I don't think I recorded my resolutions anywhere, but generally I wanted to just keep on trucking with what I was doing in 2020. This year I have some more specific things in mind.

If you are reading this, than I have put up this site, but several others are in the hot seat now. I want to publish like four websites this year.

Sticky Notes is a Windows app that I had dabbled with back when I was still using Windows 7 but last year I figured I'd try these as a replacement for physical ones. Overall I am kinda disappointed. They support links, but not like markdown links, which means the whole ass link in all its uuid and url encoded hash glory gets to flood your note. You can't link to Outlook tasks or files either since the protocol must be http. I'm going to go back to real sticky notes this year, which won't reduce the number of different task lists I have (Outlook + To Do, Keep, Discord, and Trello), but it might feel like it since there will be one less 24/7 open program on my taskbar. Note: Microsoft To Do does integrate with Outlook, and share the same list of tasks. It's handy if you are into that sort of thing. Note 2: I really wish trello's android widget had a version to show all tasks on a particular board, as opposed to only those assigned to you.

Sticky Note's large forehead. I will miss you.

Motivated by design changes coming to Windows 10 and 11 (now upon us), I also designed a ton of file folder icons with the intent to go through all my mountains of digital belongs and attempt to sort them nicely. I think that by now I am about half way there, so theoretically, I might hope to finish this year. My downloads folder only has 53 items! I'm sure to some of you, that's such a miniscule number, you wake up to more unread emails than that. Maybe some of you scoff that I would let that proliferate past 1 or 2. Sorry. I am completely caught up on E-mail, though. I'm even trying to start to use some folders for that too.

Hold me to it to publish those folder icons on this site. That's part of why I even want to put it up.

My desktop background to start this year off.
My desktop background to start this year off. Also hold me to it to publish these, I suppose.

2021 also saw me move from the moniker "Dunkel Blau" to "Dunkyl", both optionally with a pair of INPUT SYMBOLS FOR SYMBOLS (🔣🔣). That of course is why this site moved from dunkel-blau.net to dunkyl.net . Now that it's been 9 months I'd say I do not regret it. I still like the old username, but the slightly off German and presence of a space made me feel like it could be improved on. "dunkyl" itself is actually a few years old, I came up with it to tag posts of my mineral collection on Tumblr. It is a play on the letter cluster sometimes in mineral names, such as "Campylite" or "Beryl", which itself often comes from the radical form of a molecule, such as "propyl". I am watching you, @dunkyl on Twitter T_T.

So those are some of my new years thoughts at 3AM. Next on my plate with regards to blogging is JSFL since some resources for it are hard to come by now days, but no guarantees as to when or if that will be next.🔣
